Campfire: Wood Pavilion

CAMPFIRE

Lakeside Pavilion
Bergen International Wood Festival 2016
In collaboration with Stefan Berry & Simon McKenzie
Spring 2016

Set along a recent landscape development around the Store Lungegårdsvann lake, the briefing called for projects to speculate on the green transition. At the center, fire (a force of destruction) is replaced by a single tree sapling (an element of growth). It serves as the focal point in an intimate interior space, with porosity in the structure for ventilation and framed views. This project speaks to the fragility and beauty of nature, and the social bonds that can form by tending to a mutable and growing natural element.

AN EXTERIOR ROOM

Given the outward-looking nature of the site, our project seeks to encourage passers-by to take pause and look inward, encouraging moments of commensality amidst the encompassing natural landscape of the city of Bergen.
